After successful protests last week, the new campaign Nottingham Students Against Fees and Cuts invites students and staff to get involved on Tuesday 30th November saying,

All out for next Tuesday!
As we are sure you are all aware there has been action up and down the country this week against the government’s shameless attack on our education.

At University of Nottingham urgent action is needed to co-ordinate the campaign – a big rally on campus is one thing – but walkouts and rallies at local schools, colleges and at Trent Uni too is what is going to make this a fight we can win!

University of Nottingham – Time: Tuesday, November 30 · 11:30am. Location: Portland Building steps, Students’ Union, University of Nottingham.

Also at Nottingham Trent University – Meet 12 noon, Students’ Union, Byron House, Shakespeare St. for a march.

Here is how you can help:
1. Invite all your friends to the Facebook event page, and tell everyone you know about the protest (outside of Facebook too)!
2. Join us flyering – from 11:30 Friday & Monday outside the Portland building (near the cash points).
3. Pick up posters from us & put them up in your halls/local shops etc.
4. Encourage all the education workers – academics, admin, cleaners and even security to join us and take action!
5. If you are not at Nottingham Uni but want to co-ordinate some action – get in touch!

There hasn’t been a claimants’ group in Nottingham since the time of Nottingham Claimants Action in the late 1990s. With the news that the ConDem government is introducing workfare on top of all of the changes to benefits already announced, the gloves are off and a claimants’ organisation is needed more than ever. Nottingham Claimants’ Union has now been set up and to get things going there will be a meeting with a guest speaker from Derbyshire Unemployed Workers’ Centres this Wednesday.

Housing under attack – join a flash mob in Market Square, Tuesday 2nd Nov at 6pm

At the Notts SOS meeting last night it was announced that Framework workers have called for a “flash mob” – that is, a mass of people to turn up in Nottingham City Centre in the Market Square today Tuesday 2nd November 2010, to make a poignant protest.

Bassetlaw campaign gets going

Bassetlaw, the northernmost district of Nottinghamshire is facing massive cuts due to Notts County Council’s plans released last week (see https://nottssos.org.uk/in-the-news/ for details of these wide-ranging cuts).

A leaflet/poster, which also features our brand new logo, has been produced by Notts SOS campaigners in the area to highlight how this will affect Bassetlaw residents and workers: Bassetlaw SOS leaflet no.1

Militants attack Nottinghamshire County Hall during week of cuts revelations

Militants attacked Nottinghamshire County Hall in West Bridgford last Wednesday night. “Fuck austerity!” and “Fight the cuts!” were painted on walls and damage was done to windows. In an anonymous communique published on Notts Indymedia, they claim that they will “continue to attack in solidarity with all those who are abused by goverments and banks in the name of capitalism”. Get involved with Notts SOS – appeal from a Nottingham City NHS worker

Nottngham City NHS logoA Nottingham NHS worker speaks frankly about his, his workmates’, and his family and friends’ situations under the continuing threat of cuts that will no doubt be familiar to many others, and urges everyone to get involved with Notts SOS.

I work in one of the support services within the Nottingham NHS Citihealth organisation. We provide community health services to the Nottingham area. We have heard the current government promise to ring fence frontline health spending, however the reality on the ground is somewhat different.
